Eminem’s Oscar and Grammy-winning single “Lose Yourself” was certified diamond by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America), making it one of fewer than 20 songs that have ever earned the distinction granted to pieces of music that manage to move over 10 million equivalent units in the U.S. alone. Earning a diamond certification is a dream for most artists, and only a handful will ever come even close to collecting one, but Eminem is now in an even more exclusive club than those who have seen a single go diamond. He is now one of just two artists in U.S. history to collect not one, not two, but three diamond certifications for a trio of smash hits. The hip-hop superstar has now seen three of his biggest smashes be awarded the coveted plaque, with “Lose Yourself” following fellow No. 1 hits “Not Afraid” and “Love The Way You Lie,” which also granted pop singer Rihanna her first diamond award. The only other artist in history to see three different singles go diamond is Katy Perry, who accomplished the feat first. The pop superstar’s chart-topping smashes “Dark Horse,” “Firework” and most recently, “Roar,” have all been certified diamond for shifting 10 million equivalent units between sales and streams. Perry became the first artist with three such awards last summer when "Roar" became her third triumph. The only other artist who has more than one diamond single is fellow pop icon Lady Gaga, whose songs “Poker Face” and “Bad Romance” have both earned the desired distinction. She may be the next to grab a third award, or perhaps a star who currently only has one will swoop in a nab two more before her third-most certified single “Just Dance” has a chance to go diamond as well. It will be interesting to see whether Eminem or Katy Perry becomes the first to have four songs become diamond chart-owners, and if so, which one takes the lead now that they are tied.
