Nana Akosua Baakan Agyiriwah's video: 2019 06 08 Voices Of Africa Market Place

"Voices Of Africa" performs an original selection called the Market Place, in Clinton, MD at VernonicaLynne's Annual Birthday Party. In this piece we play the Agogo Bell (double-headed iron bell). The bell acts as the metronome in the music, it keeps the timing and is especially important as a reference for the other musicians. Anyone playing the bell must be an accomplished percussionist, that is keenly aware of the timing and able to maintain it throughout. The bells can be heard in the hearts of the trees and the soul of the wind. They are beautiful. It is also important to be conscientious of the tones. Each bell has its own high tone and low tone. When composing our music we listen very carefully to how the "voice" of each bell blends with the other. We focus on high, mid and low tones to create the beautiful melodies you hear in this music.
