"Voices Of Africa" performing an original composition called "Walking Massai" We have several original compositions in our repertoire. We have developed these pieces over the years, using the authentic West African Percussive techniques, creating unique sounds and compositions that sound authentic. I always encourage my students to learn the techniques, once you learn them, you can create your own music and sound authentic. All too often people confine themselves to what is played on the continent, particularly West Africa, and they forget that someone created those rhythms that have stood the test of time. And we can do the exact same thing. Indigenous Africans may ask, where does that music come from, and we tell them, from our on creative minds.
