Nate Rist's video: FORMULA MAZDA FACTORY RACE CAR WALK AROUND WARM UP AND REV

Every year in Utah there is a large car show called ISS (Import Spring Showoff) that has taken place at UMC (Utah MotorSports Campus) where a number of seasoned and professional racecar drivers, owners and raceteams store their cars. This year a handful of them had participated in the show and this Formula Mazda was one of them. The Formula Mazda series has been around for quite some time and have had multiple versions (Rob Dahm’s recently acquired formula Mazda for example is an older version using a carbureted 12A). This one in the video, however, is a much more recent version that has been sold and is now privately owned and not part of any race team or series and is instead more or less a weekend track car. Like all Formula Mazdas of this era, it uses a 100% stock factory sealed Mazda Renesis 13B Rotary engine (the one in this car is a series 2 09-12 engine) and makes between 250-260WHP. Of course that output is unheard of in the production RX-8 with the same engine, however, the RX-8 is a mass production vehicle that has to meet very strict emissions regulations and is very limited by its factory ECU. The Renesis engine in this application is completely unrestricted being managed by a MoTech ECU, having an extremely short exhaust system and is bolted to a transaxle in the rear.
