10 Signs You're Having a Panic Attack A panic attack means a sudden frightening feeling or anxiety and your bodily reaction without any obvious triggering situation. A person suffering from a panic attack loses his control and feels like he is dying or having a heart attack. The signs appear abruptly and usually reach their peak within ten minutes, and it’s rare they last till thirty minutes. You can experience panic attacks anywhere and anytime, such as in a shopping store, sitting on a couch, car, crossing a bridge, or even during sleeping. These may be recurrent episodes of a panic attack in your life or may never repeat right after the first time. If you experience these signs time and again it is called panic disorder, accompanying major changes in behavior or persistent anxiety over having further attacks. The doctors usually seek out some of the major signs before diagnosing it as a panic attack. You may suffer from chest pain, sweating, dizziness, fear of losing your mind, going to pass away, a pounding heart, shaking, a choking sensation, nausea, tingling or unresponsiveness, and feeling isolated. We have discussed a few signs that indicate you are having a panic attack. 1. Chest pain: One of the most prevalent symptoms of a panic attack is chest pain that you can perceive as a heart attack. The chest pain of a panic attack is different from a heart attack since it usually stays in the mid-chest area, whereas the pain in the latter commonly moves toward the left arm or jaw. The person feels like he is going to die, would never wake up, turn crazy, or have a heart attack. But it is just a temporary feeling that you feel for a while, and it goes on its own. 2. Chills: The sufferer feels chills going down his rib during a panic attack along with racing or pounding heartbeat. 3. Pins or needles: A panic attack makes you feel like needles or pins are being pricked in your body which arouses intense restlessness and irritability. 4. Tingling or numbness in toes or fingers: During a panic attack, you may lose any sensation in your fingers or toes. Numbness can occur along a single nerve on one side of the body or maybe on both sides of the body. 5. Trembling and quivering: Quivering is one of the most common symptoms when someone is panicking. The person suffers from shaking and trembling sensations during a panic attack. 6. Standing apart from your surroundings: The person feels like he is alone or not part of his surroundings. He is unable to comprehend the situations and is disconnected from real life. The fear and terror that you experience during a panic attack are not in proportion to the true situation and may be unrelated to what is happening around them. 7. Shortness of breath: Hyperventilation means shortness of breath. The person feels like he is being suffocated or cannot breathe during a panic attack although the situation is totally normal. 8. Sweating: Sweating or perspiration is another physical symptom during a panic attack that accompanies other symptoms. 9. Nausea or upset stomach: Nausea is not particularly an indication of a panic attack, but sometimes, it can be a warning sign when it accompanies some of the above-mentioned alarming conditions. 10. Light-headedness: Light-headedness is when you might feel dizzy or faint, and it is one of the common signs of a panic attack. Your vision is also affected. You feel nauseous and unsteady, and your body feels heavy.
