For more than 200 years, Bahawalpur was ruled by the Abbasi family. During their rule, they contributed immensely for the development of the state. They built numerous palaces with state-of-the-art architecture which are the great examples of craftsmanship. One such beautiful structure located in Bahawalpur City is Gulzar Mahal. Concieved & initiated during the reign of Nawab Bahawal Khan V (1899–1907), in early 20th Century, but unfortunately, he did not live to see his ideas take the form of reality. The Palace was completed in 1923, & named after his wife. Gulzar Palace lies within a vast quadrangle, fenced by high fortification walls & considered as one of the central state monuments of Bahawalpur. It is the second state building that echoes resurgence of native architecture.
