Governor's Cottage Parachinar: Colonial Heritage of Pakistan in Kurram District [4K] Ultra HD Set amidst lush gardens ringed by chinars and fruit bearing trees, the Governor's Cottage is a throwback to the colonial times with British flavour. The official summer residence of the Governor in Parachinar (District Kurram) dates back to 1895. Erstwhile an agency of Federally Administered Tribal Areas, Khurram became a district in 2018 after merger of FATA with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. The building made of chiseled stones and wood has a historical significance where head of states and foreign dignitaries used to stay. The cottage exudes colonial charm with its period furniture, tiled floors, wood panel–lined corridors, wooden ceilings, airy colonnaded verandah and a sun room. Stepping into the lodge, it is hard not to picture the relaxed lifestyle of the "Gora Sahibs" sitting in the sun room, sipping tea and enjoying the natural beauty of this hill station. Some of the other notable structures of the area are the present-day Deputy Commissioner House (Formerly, Political Agent's House) and the Kurram Militia Officer's Mess, built during the same period. The colonial-era structure that was crafted 127 years ago, still stand testimony to the test of time it has undergone and the beauty it has maintained throughout these years. Nevertheless, it had been in a state of neglect for a long time and there is need to bring it back to the life again and to reuse it as a heritage museum / hotel. This will give rise to tourism in this less travelled part of the country plagued by the scourge of sectarian violence.
