The Great Rann of Kutch The Great Rann of Kutch is a nature’s miracle .The name "Rann" comes from the Hindi word ran (रण) meaning "desert". Whilst many traipse through Rajasthan for a view of the desert, fewer venture to the other side of the Thar Desert to explore this spectacular region. It is a seasonal salt Marsh located in Kutch District of Gujarat, India and the Sindh province of Pakistan. It is about 7,505.22 Sq.km in size and is reputed to be one of the largest salt deserts in the world. Everyone must visit and experience the beauty and magic this place holds. Rann-Utsav Kutch is not part of the usual tourist trail. On a recent visit (February 2019) to the region, we were able to experience the Rann Utsav, a spectacle that left us awe-inspired. The spectacular sight of boundless white dessert presents a stunning creation of nature, unique to this world. This place is a cultural celebration, something that the Gujarat Government has now tried to bottle in its annual festival of Rann Utsav which is a 3 month celebration (November-February). We stayed in tents that border the great White Rann with amazing food and In-house activities to amuse us. This festival of Kutch celebrates the color of the region, providing an arena for the arts and crafts of Gujarat to be displayed and purchased. Kutch is a vast region, and visiting it during the Rann Utsav can certainly make it easier to traverse. With organized tours to some of the local sightseeing spots including Sunset and Sunrise in the White Rann of Kutch, Visit to Kala Dungar, Mandvi Beach, Vijay Vilas Palace , Swaminarayan Temple ,Aina Mahal etc. In the evening, sit back and enjoy some traditional music and folk dancing .Shows that demonstrate the diversity of the region are set up within the Rann Utsav complex and also on the White Rann for an experience that can’t be matched anywhere in the world. The tour to White Rann was an experience which we will always cherish.
