NearbyWild's video: Currant Clearwing Moth

@Currant Clearwing Moth
My grandchildren call this amazing little moth the ‘Fairy-winged moth’! Here, a male is supping on nectar in the Oxeye daisy florets when he is momentarily dislodged by another insect and quickly takes flight. He returns almost immediately and fans his tail feathers in a spellbinding way. Their larval foodplants are the cultivated (sometimes wild) black and red currant bushes and, less frequently, gooseberry bushes. There are both red currant and gooseberry bushes close to the small orchard meadow where he was feeding. We are delighted to have such a fairy-winged resident in our garden for wildlife.
