An unusual encounter by the brook! The freezing conditions had driven Chiffchaffs to search for insects and spiders sheltering in the bankside vegetation. Very small, charming birds who are usually easily spooked, so standing very still and being pin drop quiet was necessary. Such a privilege to have a close encounter with this shy bird. In the spring, they will begin to sing their name: Chiff Chaff, Chiff Chaff with an odd Chaff Chiff thrown in for good measure! They are found in many kinds of places: woodlands, urban and suburban, farmland, heathland and wetland!
