Necronomicon's video: Treason investigation into German journalists dropped

An investigation into two journalists from the German news website Netzpolitik.org for treason after publishing government plans to aquire new funding for internet surveillance purposes has been dropped. Markus Beckedahl, founder of the website, and journalist Andre Meister were under investigation although the website focuses on online and digital technology. “This is an attack on the freedom of the press,” Meister said. “We’re not going to be intimidated by this.” The articles published on Feb. 25 and April 15 are alleged to be based on leaked documents which urged the Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV) to file a criminal complaint. Federal Minister of Justice Heiko Maas fired Germany's chief federal prosecutor Harald Range after Range said Mass had interfered in the investigation. The case was closed because the prosecutor’s office stated the leaked documents were not a “state secret.” Following the incident, German officials expressed regret and reaffirmed their support for press freedom.
