I was elected Chairman/CEO of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences only days before the 9/11 attacks. This forced the postponement of the Emmy Awards scheduled for September 16, and then the ones re-scheduled on October 7 when the U.S. invaded Afghanistan. Eventually they were held on November 4 in competition with the 7th game of the World Series. It was probably the most extraordinary and important two months of my life.
