Palm oil is considered a dirty word amongst environmentalists but hear me out: Palm oil is as distractive and a force for evil as a pocket knife. It has the potential to kill, to maim and destroy innocent human and non-human animals but it's also the closest thing we have to a wonder-crop for making fat/oil to eat. It's true that its one of the causes for the near extinction of our close cousins the Orang-utan but its also ten times more land efficient than the nearest second crop to draw cooking oil from. Its absolutely provable that it causes mass deforestation in places like Indonesia also true also that it's no where near as culpable for destroying the earths lungs as deforestation for animal agriculture in Indonesia. I am here to wax lyrical about the Palm oil crop I T S E L F but I'm also here to condemn and hold solely responsible corporations, governments and regulators that have allowed our planet to be raped by the W A Y they businesses have been allowed to cultivate palm oil.
