@2019: One Second A Day For A Year - A Year In Review (Cons, Uni, Freelance Life) / 1 Second Everyday
Here’s my One Second A Day for my entire 2019! This was the biggest video project I had ever embarked on, documenting a whole year of my life one second every day, a year in 365 seconds. I filmed a one second video every single day from January 2019 to December 2019, the last year of this decade, and here’s the result! Enjoy this look back at my 2019 . 2019 was a very special year for me. After considering for years, I finally went back to university for a Postgraduate Certificate in Digital Marketing. That not only allowed me to spend a semester in Rome, one of the most stunning cities on Earth, but also to move forward in my career. Finally I put all my energy into a career in web marketing, copywriting and content creation, leaving behind more traditional translation jobs I had done in the past. I’ve lived and breathed web content for my whole life, but I’ve hold back turning it into the unique focus of my career; this year I decided to take the leap. Thanks to my uni course I’ve learnt lots of new digital skills, I’ve trained as a social media manager, and I’ve attended an international marketing conference. At the same time, I’ve continued building my freelance career. I started collaborating with new web agencies. I curated amazing website launches and localizations, wrote (hopefully) helpful blog articles, and produced copy for awesome projects in the tourism and food sector - proper dream jobs. Most importantly, I got positive feedback from agencies and my clients, which I’m very grateful for. As a result, in autumn I started renting a shared office workspace in Florence in order to have access to the best professional services for my freelance jobs, as well as networking opportunities. I’m not a huge fan of traditional offices, but I’m loving this flexible coworking solution, the place has an inspiring energy and often hosts cool events. In 2019 I’ve also attended more comic conventions than ever before, meeting incredible actors from old favorite shows of mine as well as newly found obsessions. This year I’ve met: Doctor Who’s Billie Piper (Rose Tyler) at Firenze Fantasy in Florence; Lucifer’s Tom Ellis (Lucifer Morningstar) and Graham McTavish (Father Kinley) at JIBLand4 in Rome, alongside Marvel’s Sebastian Stan (The Winter Soldier) and Supernatural’s Richard Speight Jr. (Gabriel) and Rob Benedict (God/Chuck); Doctor Who’s Ingrid Oliver (Osgood), Sophia Myles (Madame de Pompadour) and Christopher Ryan (General Staal) at Whooverville XI in Derby. I’ve also travelled and visited gorgeous places old and new, like the UK’s East Midlands, York, and Sheffield chasing Doctor Who locations. I participated in NaNoWriMo and wrote a book, a YA Contemporary LGBT Romance novel, which I was dreaming of writing since I was a teenager. I’m currently posting it online weekly one chapter per week and I plan to self-publish it next year. I opened up and put myself out there more. I’ve started feeling more comfortable in my own skin. I spent quality time with best friends and met some new interesting people. After a major health scare last year, I was blessed to be able to spent another great year with my cat, my fur baby, the light of my eyes. This year wasn’t perfect at all, it had its up and downs. There were lots of moments of struggle and uncertainty. Plenty of anxiety - so much social anxiety, man - over classes, group works, interviews, important phone calls and business meetings. So many sleepless nights due to insomnia and fear. Unresponsive clients, cancelled projects and false promises by companies. Some new, minor health problems with my cat, which led to unexpected expenses and stressful visits to the vet. Close friends going through really hard times. Drama, misunderstandings and tension with some friends and family members. Anger, sadness, hopelessness, frustration, self-doubt, disappointment, guilt, dread, tiredness. But on balance it was surely a memorable conclusion to this decade and a great beginning of a new chapter in my life. So I wanted to keep this video positive and encouraging, as a collection of memories to look back to when I feel miserable, to motivate myself to follow my passions, travel hopefully and do more. I hope that through this video you can discover some curious facts about daily life in Italy, studying at university in Rome, working in Florence, freelancing in a relatively new, bizarre industry, and going to comic cons. Or else just enjoy looking at my handsome cat and the delicious food I ate. This was my 2019. What have you done in the past year? Tell me in the comments down below! Goodbye 2019, welcome 2020.
