Network Rail Standardised Tasks - account closed's video: How to scan Scarf Joints

@How to scan Scarf Joints
Scarf joints are being introduced on some high tonnage sites where conventional joints have suffered excessive wear. These joints optimise the longitudinal force transmission between rails which extends the whole life of the joint. They will be included in the standard maintenance plans however due to the angled rail ends and the addition of a 'half hole' the ultrasonic scans require a modified test method. It's worth noting that because of the geometry of the rail end automated testing such as the Sperry UTU and B Scan technology will not completely test to the required standard. Therefore the modified U1 Scarf Instruction must be followed in accordance with maintenance instructions.
