@New Canaan Library Presents: The Paris Agreement: What Impact Has it Made on Climate Change
The United Nations Committee of New Canaan is pleased to present, in partnership with the New Canaan Library, an important lecture regarding Climate Change on Tuesday, October 5th at 7:00 PM EST. After having rejoined the Paris Accords, which aim to reduce global emissions and minimize the risks and damage due to climate change, the United States will attend the 26th U.N. Conference on Climate Change (COP26) in Glasgow, UK. What is really at stake at COP26, and who are the key players? We have already seen a continued increase in extreme weather events resulting in loss of life and material damages costing billions of dollars. To what extent can international engagement slow down the negative effects of climate change? For insight into the international negotiations that will take place, come and listen to Brendan Guy who will explain what rejoining means on a national and local level. Brendan Guy is Lead Strategist of International Climate with the National Resources Defense Council (NRDC). Guy has taught global climate policy at Oxford University’s Blavatnik School of Government and American University’s School of International Service. He holds a master of environmental management from Yale School of the Environment and a bachelor of science from the University of British Columbia. He is currently based in Washington, D.C.
