New Zealand Alpine Team's video: Transalpine Fastpacking - Arthur s Pass to Mount Cook in 6 days

@Transalpine Fastpacking - Arthur's Pass to Mount Cook in 6 days
A lightweight traverse of the Canterbury Southern Alps, from the Waimakariri to the Tasman, in 6 days of perfect weather. Our route crossed 6 passes, 200km of un-tracked terrain, with 12,000m of elevation gain. Rustic huts and seldom-visited valleys. Mystical alpine places like the Gardens of Eden & Allah, D'Archaic, and the Mount Cook glaciers. We approached the trip in a lightweight style, carrying 15L packs, running shoes, aluminium crampons & ice axes, as well as all safety equipment including a rope & harness for glacier travel, helmet, PLB, first aid and GPS navigation, extra clothing. The trip was completed during a 6 day fine spell, December 12-17th 2020 by Alastair McDowell & Sam Spector. See the topomap of the route here: https://cutt.ly/bhCAQwS Route summary: Day 1: Klondyke Corner - Barker Hut - Unknown Stream Hut (40km/1700m) Day 2: Unknown Stm. - Unknown Col - West Mathias Biv (29km/1500m) Day 3: West Mathias - Observation Col - Lyell Hut (31km/1900m) Day 4: Lyell Gl. - Rangitata Col - Lambert Col - Mt Tyndall - Disappointment Saddle - St Winifred Hut (34km/2900m) Day 5: Havelock R. - South Forbes - Twilight Col - Separation Stm. - Eade Memorial Hut (27km/1600m) Day 6: Mt Acland - Aida Gl. - Murchison Gl. - Tasman Gl. - Ball Road - Mt Cook Village (51km/2600m)
