Diane Abbott received support for her rail booze shock from an unlikely ally yesterday - Boris Johnson’s girlfriend Carrie Symonds. Ex-Tory spin doctor Carrie waded into the row even though her Boris was behind the ban which caught out Labour Shadow Home Secretary. Carrie spoke out after Abbott was spotted with a £2 tin of Marks and Spencer mopjito cocktail while on a train in her north London consistency. Carrie wrote on : “The M&S mojito cans are surprisingly good but the pina colada ones are top.” Fellow Labour MP David Lammy also appeared to make light of the situation, tweeting: “Jah Rastafari ! Why was the rum not Jamaican?”. TV host Rylan Clarke added: “Try the pornstar martini next time, it’s lovely, really compliments the district line x”. And local brewers Caps and Taps jokingly advised Abbott: “Next time consider a can of Longflint G&T. Made with foraged botanicals from Hackney’s canal paths.” Transport for London introduced an alcohol ban on all public transport in the capital in 2008 when Boris was mayor. Abbott yesterday tweeted: “A photo of me drinking from a can on M&S mojito on the Overground has been circulated. “I sincerely apologise for drinking on TFL.” But Carrie is not the only to rally around the Shadow Home Secretary. One user wrote: "Of all the mild public order offences to commit, this is the best. Keep up the good work, Diane." Another said: "Dear Diane, I have to say I'm deeply shocked. You must be the first person in recorded history ever to apologise for drinking on TFL and also to discover that an M&S mojito counts as alcohol". One user wrote: "the NHS and drinking tins on trains are the only two noble and honourable british institutions. I stand with diane".
