Iran Plane Crash Boeing 707 Crash Lands Near Houses Killing 15 But One Survives. At least 15 people were killed and one miraculously survived when an Iranian military cargo plane carrying meat crashed and exploded into flames just feet from houses.
The Boeing 707 went down west of the capital Tehran after "mistaking the airport with another airfield because of the bad weather", according to reports.
Rescuers were combing through the smouldering wreckage in the search for victims.
Sixteen people were on board the aircraft when it crashed near Fath airport in the central Iranian province of Alborz, state media reported.
It was initially thought that everyone on board was killed, but reports later emerged the flight engineer was the lone survivor.
That person was taken to hospital.
Their condition was not immediately known.
There was confusion over who owned the plane until state media confirmed it belonged to Iran's military and it was carrying meat from Kyrgyzstan.
The army said in a statement to the semi-official news agency Fars: "A Boeing cargo 707 place carrying meat from Bishkek in Kyrgyzstan had an emergency landing at Fath airport today.
"The flight engineer has been dispatched to the hospital."
Earlier reports said nine or 10 people were on the plane.
But the count was later revised to 16.
The plane crash landed after "mistaking the airport with another airfield because of the bad weather", Fars reported.
Iranian officials have launched an investigation into the cause of the air disaster.
Iran has suffered multiple aviation disasters in recent years.
In February last year, an Aseman Airlines passenger plane crashed into Mount Dena in central Iran on a flight from Tehran to Yasuj, killing all 66 people on board.
Forty people died when a Sepahan Airlines flight crashed shortly after take-off while flying from Tehran to Tabas in August 2014.
Eight others survived.
Weeks later, a wealthy Turkish socialite and her 11 friends died when a private plane bringing them home from Dubai crashed into a mountain near the south-western Iranian city of Shahr-e Kord.
