News Martin's video: Kevin Durant Kawhi Leonard may suddenly team up with Knicks

@Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard may suddenly team up with Knicks
Could Kevin Durant and Kawhi Leonard team up?  That possibility is seeming more likely, based on reports Saturday. And the only two current options with enough cap space are the Knicks and Clippers.  An ESPN report said Durant and Leonard have discussed scenarios about playing together, while another report said the Clippers would use that as a sales pitch when they meet with each player.  It would be a big boon for the Knicks if there is such a desire. They were planning to make a hard charge at Leonard — outlining the potential business-boom his New Balance sneaker line would get.  The Knicks weren’t going hard on the notion of selling Leonard with the possibility of playing with Durant because the club had been unaware if either player was keen on such a scenario.  In fact, the Knicks’ chances of landing Leonard seemed diminished with the Lakers emerging as a suitor after they cleared cap space for a maximum salary slot to pair another star with LeBron James and Anthony Davis.  “Every team in the league would drool at the prospect of having them teamed together,’’ an NBA personnel man told The Post of a Durant-Leonard pairing. “Add in a more-than-serviceable point guard, which the Knicks would need, and you have the championship core if KD is back to what he was.’’  The new information contradicts ESPN reports last week that Durant would make his decision independent of other players.    It’s been previously thought Durant only considered Kyrie Irving as a player he would want to join forces with. Durant and Leonard are not believed to be friends. Irving appears headed to Brooklyn and has tried to draw Durant with him.  Leonard and Durant were already expected to speak with the Knicks and Clippers separately. Leonard’s hometown is Los Angeles and Durant just sold his place in Malibu, Calif. With free agency opening Sunday evening, the Knicks are happy to at least be in the mix for both players. Knicks president Steve Mills has lamented that during the Phil Jackson years players were more reluctant to meet with them.  Leonard’s chief advisor is his uncle, Dennis Robertson, who may consider New York a solid business opportunity. Robertson is from South Orange, N.J., having lived in the same town as Knicks president Steve Mills. Robertson is a former Manhattan banker.  Durant will miss next season with a torn Achilles, but the addition of Leonard and their third-overall draft pick, RJ Barrett could vault the Knicks into playoff contention. Leonard turned 28 last week and could view that as a wasted season of his prime, waiting for KD to return.  The Knicks love the notion of Leonard as an understated, modest superstar out of the Derek Jeter mold. There have been rumors Leonard would go back to Toronto just for one season to defend the crown and be a free agent in 2020. Landing a meeting at least lays the groundwork for the future — landing KD first, Leonard next year.  Both players can handle either forward position and are both considered exc
