It’s described by Lambo as “performance and lifestyle under the open sky”. They also call it “open air emotion”, but before we get carried away let’s examine the facts. For starters the roof is replaced with an electronic soft-top, so the extra strengthening required to stop the body wobbling has raised its weight from 1,422kg to 1,542kg. That means you’re going to have to accept a drop in performance. It may have the same 610hp, 5.2-litre V10 as the normal Huracán but the Spyder’s 0-62mph (100kph) time plummets from 3.2 to 3.4s, while, even worse, the 0-124mph (200kph) time slumps from 9.9 to a shocking 10.2s. Top speed falls too, from 202 to a mere 201mph. Still, if a soft top means that much to you I suppose you could accept its inadequate performance, especially as you can pose about opening and closing it in 17 seconds on your high street at up to 31mph. Better still you can choose from three roof colours – black, brown or red. Somehow I can’t see brown really taking off. Once closed the roof isn’t even noticeable, say Lamborghini, as this four-wheel drive successor to the Gallardo is totally flat underneath with a massive diffuser that “virtually eliminates wind noise” with the roof closed. But if you really want to grab the attention of passers-by, choose “Corsa” driving mode – the others are “Strada” and “Sport” – and take it up to its 8,250rpm rev limit. That way you can actually watch people cry at the incredible wailing sound. If you’re desperate to get your hands on one you can order now – with first deliveries next April – and all it will cost you is £205,000. Bargain.
