Africa, one of the seven continents, has been reported to have 3000 distinct ethnic groups, 2000 languages and is home to people of wide physical and genetic diversity on earth. Often times, conscious and unconscious assumptions and biases trickle in with increased human diversity and get multi-facet in their intended and unintended influences on daily activities including scientific research, ethics, design and experiment, data generation and handling as well as consumption. NEF Fellow Dr. Eucharia discusses the undesirable challenges arising from great diversity among Africans, presents important considerations to harness these attributes to close up gaps in research and innovation and their management in line with the more recent SDGs.
