Nickstermc's video: Pantera - Mouth For War Solo

Always fancied a Dimebag Dean ML and one came up recently for sale for a price that I just couldn't turn down. So, of course a quick Dimebag solo cover is in order to christen it!! Absolutely love the guitar, it's solid and plays great. Very easy to shred about on. As I've mentioned in other videos Dimebag is a real guitar hero of mine and this solo really captures his vibe. For me the best aspects of Dime's playing wasn't the shredding but more his loose groove and his bending. Decided to do this solo as it was probably the first Pantera I ever heard. At the tender age of 16 myself and some friends took a bus from Scotland all the way to the Milton Keynes Bowl in 1993 to see Metallica and Megadeth. Someone on the bus put Vulgar Display on at full volume and the sound just blew me away. It was like nothing I'd ever heard before. Scary, heavy and groovy in equal measure. This solo has a lot of big over-bends which Dime did a lot. A lot of the online lessons that show you how to play this solo don't do the over-bends and do a sort of approximation by sliding up two frets and then bending. Don't be fooled, that's not the dime way!! Dig in, bend hard and getcha pull!! Don't lame it. Production note : Video has a bit of a 'soft focus/vasoline on the lens feel' as I had the camera set up on manual focus and then moved in too close when playing. Doh!
