Nighat Chaudhry Official's video: Teaser kathak Union

Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi & Wahab Shah Dance Company We are excited to announce the release of 'KATHAK UNION' on International Dance Day, April 29th, 2023. This video celebrates the Samraat family's legacy in preserving the Samrat Gharana of Kathak, a rich and vibrant dance form. The collaboration between established dancers Nighat Chaudhry, Wahab Shah, and Waqaar Samraat, aims to pay tribute to the Samraat family's contribution to Kathak dance. Ashiq Samrat who was recognized by the title of “Nritya Samrat” before the Indo-Pak partition along with his cousin Meera Baksh, trained under Pandit Ram Gopal in the Jhanakiprasad Kathak Gharana of Banaras. The video showcases the beauty and complexity of Kathak dance, with music composed by the late Ustad Umer Daraz and choreography by Waqaar Samraat. It was filmed at the Karachi Arts Council and created through intensive training workshops at the Wahab Shah Dance Company. We are grateful to Arts Council President Ahmed Shah for his support in making this project possible.
