This is some half-baked commentary on a recent Friended hangout with ShannonQ and Annika 'Brien https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZDtYSJqsMw This is actually a pretty good hangout and you should check it out. I also reference my original hangout with Friended on anti-theism (we really need to to do another Friended on teaching ethics to children without religion....... not least because that is exactly what my wife has done for the last decade!) Something a bit more structured on my main channel soon (next part of my John Lennox series)!!! https://www.youtube.com/user/noelplum99 Interestingly, according to the BSA 28, only 49% of those brought up in as Anglican still identify as Anglican. 43% identify as no religion. Compare that to Catholics, for whom 62% still identify as Catholic with only 32% of those brought up in that tradition now classing themselves as having no religion. Even more starkly, for "other religions" (which is mainly islam) the figures are a brutal 87% versus 10%. All these groups have access to the NHS in the same way. I would suggest viewing figure 12.4 on religious attendance. I propose that attendance is a good measure of how hard a line each group tends to take over their faith and correlates well with how reliably they push their beliefs onto their children (other than for the "no religion" group, obviously) To Friended: what is very interesting here is this appears to be a resolutely one-way street. Of those who report being brought up with "no religion" a whopping 94% of them grow up to have no religion as adults. The "meme" that is propagating best (I write that somewhat tongue in cheek), regardless of proposals of multi-level selection and our evolved predisposition to religions is the "no religion" meme, which seems by far the most resilient once it takes a hold. Regardless of your claim of religion having societal utility this appears to be a one-way journey so perhaps the discussion needs to move on to pinpointing exactly what, if anything, needs replicating that is not being replicated by organic means.
