It only takes a few miscellaneous problems to have a normal repair of any NuTone Intercom Master Station be end up as "less and perfect". Broken knobs is one of those problems. The knobs on NuTone Master Stations made between the mid-1960's and early 1970's, like the 2090 / 2091 ~ 2540 / 2541 ~ 2542 ~ 2063 / 2064 and the Stereo Model 2500 are particularly vulnerable to having broken knobs - Causing them to just spin on there controls shafts.
