NowThis Earth's video: Protesters Attempt to Storm Stage at Shell Shareholder Meeting

Security guards at Shell’s annual shareholder meeting on May 23 reportedly had to form a human chain to protect executives as protesters tried to rush the stage. The climate activists, who were singing and shouting, had to be individually carried out, and some even tried to get on the stage where CEO Wael Sawan and the board of directors were sitting. The meeting was delayed by at least an hour. This wasn’t the first protest of this kind — last year, the meeting was delayed 3 hours by climate activists. Protester Katie Burrell said to Reuters, ‘If I had someone from Shell in front of me, I would just appeal to them. They're so clever, and they have tremendous skills and abilities inside their company, and I think you can use that for good. It's not as if it's not possible to make a company do less bad.’ ‘You know, start now, do more,’ Burrell continued. 'We are in the climate crisis, it's knocking at the gates of Europe now and we've got to make a difference. And so, you know, their children are going to be affected. They're going to be affected.
