Mekii was only 13 when the war broke out in 2011. His story shows how many people from the Nuba Mountains have faced persecution – even those residing in the government-controlled areas. George fled with his family to Yida refugee camp in Ruweng State, South Sudan. Life improved for George with better facilities and relative peace. But since June this year, the UN and South Sudan government closed the camp, forcing residents to relocate to a neighboring camp, Ajuong Thok, or return to the war in the Nuba Mountains.
