He was a founding member of "Evi Evan" an avant gard rock band with which he has recorded 2 CD's. Extensive work as a studio musician. The last project is a bass duet (Bass to Bass) and their CD was released in September. In 2000 he was accepted after audition in the City of Thessaloniki Symphony Orchestra and begun his studies in composition. Since then he has composed works for symphony orchestra, string ensembles, chamber music and solo instruments. He has also studied Philosophy at the Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki. TERRA INCOGNITA Terra Incognita ( = unknown land ) has until now recorded 3 CD's with his compositions. Terra Incognita 1 was selected by "Difono" magazine among the best 25 of 2002 regadless genre. Terra ‘s music combines different elements : jazz , classical, rock. Lyrical melodies and chamber music-like settings co-exist together with high energy grooves and rock oriented guitar solos. Their aim is to compose music with the spontaneity and freshness of improvisation and improvise with the discipline and structure of a composer. The ensemble ( sometimes consisting of both classical and jazz musicians) is performing a composition which has space for improvisations. The overall result combines the structure of a classical composition with the spontaneity and energy of the improvisers, giving the listener ( and the musicians performing ) the sense of a "living composition". The jazz players are called to react in a different situation so they forget their patterns and manierisms and the classical ones get the freshness of the improvisers, contributing to the whole ensemble not only by performing their parts but also by being creative with their material. Improvisation is in fact a real time composition and usually a composition starts from an improvisation which gets later a more structured shape. Many of the classical masters were excellent improvisers and many improvisers gave us marvelous compositions. In the bottom line it is the same thing: the re-arrangement and reshaping of the previous existing material.Twentieth century classical music sometimes resembles improvisation and most ( if not all) of jazz harmony comes from classical music, especially the late romanticism and impressionism. Debussian harmony is very close to the harmonies used by Bill Evans and Cecil Taylor's improvisations bring in mind the "masses of sounds' of Edgar Varese. This mixture of styles is their main field of work as they are trying to fuse different elements in one inseperatable structure, having ,on one hand, a composition strong and stimulating and, on the other, improvisations that are in fact the development and the natural consequence of the composition.
