OPSGEAR®'s video: John s 3rd Dan Test Part 1 Warmup

This is Part 1: Warmup This is my son John’s 3rd Dan test. The video was shot by another of my son’s, Luke Pratt, who is a 1st Dan black belt. He did not shoot the entire test, but most of it is here. The test is broken up into three different videos: Part 1: Warmup Part 2: Kicks & Falls Part 3: Points & Sparring John’s new belt will not be awarded for at least a year from the time of the test, so John is still a 2nd Dan black belt, and will be so until at least sometime mid 2020. Many styles might differentiate this by saying he is “Recommended 3rd Dan” as opposed to “Decided 3rd Dan”. But that’s not quite how we do it, because a “Recommended 3rd Dan” in most other styles is still recognized as a 3rd Dan, and John is not recognized as a 3rd Dan yet. This style is “Moo Lim Do”, which is a rare Korean style. It is taught here at OPSGEAR’s dojang by two Korean Masters, both of whom were born in Korea and immigrated to the United States almost 40 years ago. For those familiar with Korean styles, I would say Moo Lim Do is about 40% Tae Kwon Do, 40% Hap Ki Do, and 30% Tang Soo Do (more or less). Once John has been awarded his 3rd Dan black belt, we will be allowed to open our dojang up to the public, with John as the instructor, under the Korean's "World Moo Lim Do" umbrella.
