Oceanlab, University of Aberdeen's video: Mariana Trench - 8145m - New Snailfish

@Mariana Trench - 8145m - New Snailfish
Video footage from the University of Aberdeen’s Hadal-Lander deployed in the Mariana Trench from the Schmidt Ocean Institute’s Research Vessel Falkor. This video shows the accumulation of small scavenging amphipods (Crustaceans, or ‘hoppers’) at 8145m deep. Amongst the scavenging amphipods is a new species of what is believed to be a snailfish (Liparidae). This new snailfish is quite different from those found in the area in that it is extremely delicate with large pectoral fins. This sighting is also the deepest a fish has ever been seen alive, beating the 2008 record in the Japan Trench by nearly 450m. Copyright SOI/HADES/University of Aberdeen (Dr. Alan Jamieson).
