Oceanlab, University of Aberdeen's video: Mariana Trench - 6141m - Supergiant amphipod 2

@Mariana Trench - 6141m - Supergiant amphipod 2
Video footage from the University of Aberdeen’s Hadal-Lander deployed in the Mariana Trench from the Schmidt Ocean Institute’s Research Vessel Falkor. This video shows the ‘supergiant’ amphipod Alicella gigantea (Familay Alicellidae) from 6141m. This incredibly rare footage shows the scavenging supergiants defence mechanism agianst the suction feeding Bassozetus sp. (Ophidiidae, assfishes). The supergiant is simply too large to be suction fed upon. The latter sequence shows its other defence mechanism in that it forks out its pointed telson (tail) to fend off an inquisitive Coryphaenoides yaquinae (Family: Macrouridae).
