@Legislation by Lorena Gonzalez Secures $3 Billion in State Budget to Protect AB 60 License Holders
Assembly Bill 1747, authored by state Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez (D-San Diego), protects the privacy of California residents by prohibiting personal information stored in statewide databases from being used for immigration enforcement, except only in the cases where the information is related to the individual’s criminal history. Gonzalez authored the bill following recent news investigations that uncovered that I.C.E. can access state-run law enforcement databases that contain personal information about participants in the AB 60 driver’s license program. The AB 60 program, which began in 2015, ensures that all motorists, regardless of citizenship status, are expected to be trained, tested and insured while on California roads. More than 1 million Californians are licensed under the AB 60 program.
