Old Movie Watching with Rob's video: Undercover Man 1942 - Movie Review

Undercover Man was an enjoyable Hopalong Cassidy film featuring William Boyd as Hopalong, Andy Clyde as California and Jay Kirby as Breezy. They show up to help solve the mystery of why raids are occurring along the Texas/Mexico border. Both the Texas Rangers and the Mexican Federales don't know who is behind it, and the outlaws are sneaky and cunning. As Hopalong investigates, at one point they start to suspect that *he* is the one leading the bandits (which seemed a little odd). While digging around through some old wanted posters Hoppy is able to get to the bottom of things. Meanwhile, California is involved in a silly sub-plot, seems more interested in eating Mexican food while wooing a Mexican widow with a bunch of kids, while competing with Chris-Pin Martin as Miguel, the big Mexican guy who could wiggle his ears. California really enjoys the senora's cooking ("pile it on, woman!") and might be falling for her, but true love might not be meant to be. Some closing thoughts is that this was a fine Hopalong b-western with lots of night rides and shooting, and a mystery that wasn't too deep (it's a little bit Scooby-Do at the end, but that's fine.) Since it was a short film and not a lot of story, I'll leave the review here and say that this one is worth checking out.
