Oregon State Police's video: The true meaning of Community

@The true meaning of #Community
Meet Cole. Cole is a 12-year-old student at Cesar Chavez K-8 School. Cole also started playing the Baritone in his schools band at the beginning of the year. Why should we meet Cole? I am so glad you asked. Cole’s story is one of community, encouragement and that sometimes even the little things can make the BIGGEST difference in someones life. Sometime back in April, Trooper Dezso was asked by Trooper Chose to check on a young boy that had been out on a neighborhood corner in the cold drizzle for most of the day. Trooper Dezso stopped by on his way home and met Cole. Cole had been on the corner for about 6 hours playing his school owned baritone horn to raise money to buy one for his own. Cole told the Trooper that he has played on the corner a couple of times so far and made a little money each time. Cole made an impression on the Troopers, who decided to take the matter into their own hands. Trooper Dezso contacted the music teacher, Mr. Wurst, at the school in which Cole attends. Apparently, music has really turned this Cole’s life around. Since being in the band, his grades and class engagement have drastically improved. Trooper Dezso, Trooper Brenton and Mr. Wurst put together a plan to see if they could help Cole reach his goal, and reach his goal they did. Last night during the band’s final concert of the year, Cole was presented with a Euphonium, a metronome, some music books, a cleaning kit and a lanyard for Cole. Beacock music also presented Cole with a certificate for a free month’s worth of private lessons. All of this could not have been accomplished without the help of Beacock Music and Education Center, Cesar Chavez K-8 School community members, Portsmouth community members, local state troopers, Mr. Wurst and especially Trooper Joseph Dezso and Trooper Brenton Chose. You all have made a difference in not only Cole’s life, but the entire community that came together to make a difference. Great job! This is the true meaning of
