@1990 Avanti Four Door - Picture History 30 Years in the Making
It took almost 30 years for the Avanti Four Door to finally get into Production. Studebaker and it's contracted design team headed by Raymond Loewy introduced for April 1962, the Studebaker Avanti Coupe at the Indy 500 Race. Studebaker was heavily promoting this event as their Lark was the featured Pace Car that year, the first time since 1952. Almost immediately from the launch of the Coupe, President of Studebaker Packard, Sherwood Egbert took on the task of working up Avanti derived variants, something to potentially launch in the 1965 model year. After Studebaker spun off Avanti in 1964 and Avanti became an independent car company, almost 30 years later, the Avanti Four Door, the dream of Loewy and Egbert and Tom Kellogg came to fruition. 89 Examples were produced
