Song, throat yoik or recitation? The group Transjoik consists of four musicians using their voices in ways you’ve never heard before. Taking their cue from old wax recordings of yoiks, the group’s performance builds to a modern yet timeless and hypnotizing atmosphere. Fun fact: Lead singer Frode Fjellheim is also known as the man behind the soundtracks to Disney’s «Frozen» movies. The last time Transjoik played at Mela, they shared the stage with Lahore’s one and only Sher Miandad Khan. On this occasion, sitar player Rohini Sahajpal and vocalist Reshail Mansoor, whose music is inspired by Bollywood and the traditional raga, will join them on stage. Anything can happen when the crowd is invited into the fabulous musical world of yoik samples, Rohini Sahajpal’s gorgeous ragas, and Reshail Mansoor’s impressive voice.
