Had to hop on this trend. I have a lot to say on what happened at the hospital and how the system failed my husband, regardless of the laws that are in place. In 1990 the ADA law was passed, Americans with Disabilities Act. This law prohibits employers, employment agencies, labor unions, and joint labor-management committees from discriminating against people with disabilities. The ADA also places responsibility for providing EFFECTIVE communication, including the use of interpreters, directly on covered entities. They CANNOT require a person to bring someone to interpret for him or her. Unfortunately, Deaf and Hard of Hearing folks have to argue and fight to remind people of these laws, and are still left without effective communication. Please read up on these laws, know what you are to provided if you are in a position to do so.
