As there is so many options out there, we wanted to cover the most popular choices and talk through some of the reasonings behind why you would choose to learn each one. Whether its piano, guitar, bass, drums or even ukulele; each instrument holds its own characteristic and we hope to bring you some inspiration when making the right choice for you. Piano, for example, has many benefits as your first choice instrument for learning. Not only is it an incredibly versatile instrument to learn; piano is featured in so many genres from pop to soul to jazz or rnb the piano can found as an integral part of all of these musical styles. Its also a fantastic route into music theory and ear training, teaching you invaluable skills that can be easily transferred over to other instruments as you continue in your journey in music. Piano may be a popular choice for those looking to be a session player, classical musician, jazz musician or even in the band pit for musical theatre shows. Equally, guitar is a hugely popular choice too for anyone looking to follow in the footsteps of their favourite guitarists and musicians. Guitar will help you build up the strength in your fingers, if you're starting on an acoustic then the benefits from this at the beginning will be huge. If you're inspired by singer-songwriters who play acoustic then this would be a fantastic starting point for you. If you love the sound of an electric guitar solo roaring through a track; then perhaps electric guitar will be the perfect choice for you. Learning to use different picking and strumming patterns will open up the doors to the wide array of different genres. If its not guitar or piano for you then perhaps the rhythmical element of the bass guitar or the drums will be the instrument for you. From understanding how to be the driving beat underneath a track to all the unique and different techniques required for mastering the bass. There is so much to gain from learning both these instruments and our hope is to encourage you to step into one of these paths if you know guitar or piano is not for you!
