You take tests and quizzes and assessments to see what traits you possess so that you can fit like a puzzle piece into the world. Well picking what you want to do at 17 years old feels next to impossible. You don’t even know who you are yet. Shit you would have just hit puberty before that and learned to drive a car and now the world wants you to select a career you're supposed to do until you’re 65. That’s crazy! Today, the average person changes jobs ten to fifteen times (with an average of 12 job changes) during his or her career. So if you’re freaking out that you’re not in the right career it’s ok. We are all going through the same thing as you. I feel like I selected a career in business at 17 years old because that’s what I was suppose to do. In my town, if you didn’t go off to get a post-secondary education after high school you were deemed a degenerate. At least it looked that way. So you stand in line like everyone else and select a career path. I picked business because it was an easy choice, there were a bunch of different avenues I could take and I could eventually choose something to specialize in after 4 years. But now I look back on my life and think what would I do if I knew nobody would judge me? It totally changes everything. The very first thing you think of while selecting a career is what will my parents think of this? Will my friends make fun of me? There are so many opinions from other people and you just want to make everyone happy including yourself. So you settle. You go with the easiest path. This is obviously not everyone. Statistics show that 20% of people love their jobs. But unfortunately, the other 80% don’t. So today I want you to write down everything that you would love to do. Forget about what your parents, friends, siblings, uncle, auntie, dog, parakeet would think of your choices and just write down what you love. Forget about the money you would make, the time it would take to learn, the school you would go to, and everything else that could possibly stop you in your tracks from writing it down and just write.
