The Shiv Temple, situated at Old Airport Road, Bangalore, is one of the most popular spiritual destinations in the city. Built in 1995, the temple is said to have the most powerful Shiva statue in the world with a gigantic 65 feet (20 m) tall idol. Ever since its make, the temple has attracted many devotees from India and abroad. Ravi V. Melwani (RVM) and his father, the founder of the Temple, is said to have had a vision from God to build a Shiv Temple that would spread faith, hope and belief for generations to come. However, they were perplexed as they didn’t have enough money or land then to build such a temple. Being a staunch believer in God, RVM strongly believed that God would help him find a way to fulfill his vision. His determination and untiring search finally resulted in finding a land suitable for the temple and also a sculptor who could put the dream into brick and mortar. In a very short span of time, the temple became a reality with the help of the sculptor Kashinath, who built the idol. He did not even use a drawing, a blue print or a measuring tape to build the statue. He used his bare hands on marble paste and finished this spectacular idol.
