The Allies land on the beach and face strong resistance from the Japanese. The U.S. eventually take Mount Suribachi and the southern half of the island, but suffer a large number of casualties. The Allies move north and after a difficult battle, they take control of the island. Includes Staff Sgt. Bill Genaust film of the event. Release Date of this newsreel was 1951.
