Pacific Northwest Transport Hub's video: AMTRAK COAST STARLIGHT TEHACHAPI DETOUR TRAIN CHASE SOLEDAD CANYON CA

[WATCH IN 1080p] A recent rainstorm hit shore and blasted the California Coast line with heavy, torrential rainfall. It washed out the tracks, created mudslides, and raised water level above the rails north of Santa Barbara between Santa Barbara and San Luis Obisbo, CA. Trains became stranded, as well as passengers. In an effort to keep on schedule, Coast Starlight train 14 was at the last minute detoured up the Valley sub and over the Tehachapi Pass. I caught it up in Soledad Canyon, just north of Santa Clarita, CA and chased it all the way to Vincent Grade/Acton, CA. [Shot One: The first sight of 14. I barely had time to get over to the bluff to get my first shot of it as it enters the main part of Soledad Canyon.] [Shot Two: Now into the canyon, train 14 enters the Rivena siding and passes a private crossing with a very nice K5LA on AMTK 147. [Shot Three: Train 14 picks up a little speed now passing Aliso Canyon Road as it leaves the canyon behind and enters Acton and Vincent Grade, CA.] [Shot Four: Train 14 leaves the Crest siding after meeting Metrolink train 216. At this point, it heads out into the desert and hightails to Mojave and Tehachapi, 75MPH the whole way.] This was unscheduled and unexpected. The decision to do this happened the morning of the 21st and it is not part of the scheduled detours for 2011 happening in late March and April. © 2011 Amtrak458 and Happy Rails Productions.
