Afghan Cookie - Traditional Kiwi Biscuits. Special Thanks to my lovely Neighbour Merlin. Afghan Biscuits are a Kiwi favorite. The chocolate and Wheat bix biscuit, also known as a "cookie" is topped with chocolate icing and walnuts. This afghan cookie recipe is a kiwi traditional ( which means it's a recipe from New Zealand). This has nothing to do with Afghanistan. While the origin of the name is uncertain, there is one thing for sure, the biscuits are delicious and really easy to make. Just remember that it's important to use unsweetened coco powder otherwise the biscuits will be too sweet. A tip on the cookie dough -- you really need to roll and press the dough but be very gentle. Place them about 2 inches apart on the baking sheet.
