With their upcoming remake of Silent Hill 2 on the horizon, I thought I'd start looking at some of their games to gauge my own expectations. It did not go well. Blair Witch (2019) is part of the Blair Witch universe, starting in the late 1990s with The Blair Witch Project, a revolutionary film that popularised the found footage horror genre. This game is more tightly tied to the 2016 film Blair Witch which served as a sequel to the original film, and not the entirely forgotten Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2. One of the main reasons that Bloober Team is contentious is due to their famous and potentially damaging mistreatment of mental illness in their narratives, with them often painting those afflicted as villainous, beyond saving, or otherwise cartoonish and outdated. Of course, in this game, they do nothing different - this time making a mockery of PTSD.
