@Sagargad fort trek with T Trikon on 20th September 2020 Trek leaders Kunal, Santosh and Vinay
Sagargad as the name suggests is a fort overlooking the ocean. Base village is Nigade located near Alibag. A 100 km drive from Mumbai along the Mumbai-Goa road till wadkal naka and then a detour towards Alibag. A left turn on the outskirts of Alibag and you reach the base village. We began our trek at 10am. Muddy wide path for the first 30 minutes followed by a well laid out rock path with steps leading to an open air Shiv temple with 8 Shivlings. Another muddy climb for 10 minutes leads to a small flat area from where we had an amazing view of Siddheshwar waterfalls. A rest spot for clicking photos and munching snacks.Further up is the Siddheshwar temple which was closed due to covid lockdown. By 11.30, we reached a Bamangaon a small machi with a few houses. It was here that we would have our lunch on our way back. Plenty of water bodies. A small waterfall and lake in which the local kids were enjoying themselves is located on our path. At 12.20 we had our first view of our destination and Vaner khind. A further 10 minutes walk and we reached an open air Ganesh temple. Reached the entrance to Sagargad fort at 1300. A huge plateau covered with greenery and different coloured flowers. Plenty of water sources. A continuous flow of crystal clear water emerges from a Gaumukh into a tank. We filled our stomachs and water bottles and proceeded to the extreme end of Sagargad fort. Vaner khind was present just after the end. An amazing view of the ocean and islands on one side and the sahyadris elsewhere. A bust of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and two cannons are present on a small hillock in the middle of the fort. Enjoyed the view, had some snacks and began our descend at 14.30. Reached Bamangaon in an hour. Had a delicious lunch of local cusine. Relaxed for some time and resumed our descend at 1600. Took a detour just after Siddheshwar temple. A slippery, narrow risky path. 30 minutes on this dangerous section and we were at the base of Siddheshwar waterfalls. Refreshed and rejuvenated ourselves under the waterfalls and then left for the base village. Reached Nigade at 1815. A 10 min drive and we were at hotel Trimurti Garden. Changed into dry clothes, had snacks and coffee and left for Mumbai. Total trekking dist about 17kms and Altitude of Sagargad 415 metres. A must do trek during or just after the monsoon season 🙏 Jai bhole ki 🙏
