Acorns: they are abundant, taste great and different. What you do is collect them, check them for pinholes (those go away), dry them for a few minutes in the oven. Then crack them. This can be done by hand, but if you have a meat grinder you can use that without the grind plate. This works really well and fast. Then you cook the acorns three times and throw away the water. Now they are ready for further use. You can grind them very fine and use them as you would almond powder, or a little more coarse and use them as pecan bits. A third use is very fine as an addition to bread flour. So follow along in the pretty woods in Brabant (South of the Netherlands and let's collect some acorns.
