I'll spoiler the three reasons not to use the trekking poles upside down as tent poles. 1) it's dangerous. Hitting your head on the point of a trekking pole really hurts, or worse. 2) your handle would be down there in the dirt, that is just dirty. 3) the pointy end gives good grip on the ground, that makes for a more stable shelter.
