Ultrasound atau USG 3D adalah teknik sonografi medis yang dipatenkan pada tahun 1987. Walaupun juga digunakan untuk pemeriksaan dan diagnosis kesehatan, namun teknik ini lebih banyak digunakan untuk prosedur kebidanan, yaitu untuk mengambil gambar 3D janin saat berada dalam kandungan. Saat pemindaian sonografi, gelombang suara frekuensi tinggi akan dipancarkan ke dalam tubuh. Kemudian, gelombang tersebut dipantulkan kembali dengan sudut yang berbeda, sehingga timbul gema yang diproses menjadi gambar tiga dimensi.
