It is important to see the issues black Americans face in the U.S. as international issues of human rights violations and as a part of an international struggle for human rights. It is not just domestic issues. It is also important to look to past leaders who spent their lives learning, educating, and fighting for liberation. Continuing from my last video, in this video, I cover the approach Malcolm X took toward the end of his life with the Organization of Afro-American Unity (OAAU) to frame the situation of black Americans in the U.S. as an issue of human rights (human rights violations) and with regard to international standards. Malcolm's project was just a continuation of organizations like the NAACP under the leadership of W.E.B. Du Bois, the National Negro Congress (NNC) and the Civil Rights Congress. I cover the petitions, including the famous We Charge Genocide petition led and supported by William L. Patterson, Paul Robeson, W.E.B. Du Bois. I connect all of this back to today's struggles, international law, human rights, and current frameworks for bringing complaints before the Human Rights Council.
